Seventeen: Watching You Become
Today, he turns 17.
It feels unreal to write that number. Seventeen is not a child anymore, and not yet a man—but it carries the quiet confidence of someone standing at the edge of becoming.
I still remember your very first cry—the moment that made me maa. From those early days when your laughter filled the house without effort, when scraped knees healed faster than broken toys, and your entire world fit neatly into school bags and bedtime stories. Somewhere between that first cry and this moment, you grew—silently and steadily—into someone thoughtful, observant, and deeply your own person.
At 17, life begins to ask serious questions. Who do you want to be? What will you stand for? What kind of strength will you choose—loud or quiet, rigid or kind? You may not have all the answers yet, and that is perfectly okay. Growth is not about certainty; it is about courage.
What makes me proud is not just how you have grown or how smart you are becoming, but how you think. The way you pause before reacting. The way you notice more than you say. The way your silence often holds depth. These are strengths the world does not always applaud, but it deeply needs.
As you step into this year, remember this:
